همانطور که می دانید لامپهای شمعی و اشکی در روشنایی تزئینی مانند لوسترها به کار می‌روند. سرپیچ لامپهای شمعی از نوع E14 می باشد و از سرپیچ‌های E40 کوچکتر است.
در هنگام خرید می‌بایست به این نکته توجه کرد که لامپهای شمعی نیز همانند لامپهای معمولی در سه نوع رشته‌ای یا التهابی، فلورسنت (کم‌مصرف) و ال ای دی تولید می‌شوند.
لامپهای شمعی رشته ای معمولا با توان مصرفی ۶۰وات در بازار موجود می‌باشد که با توجه به مصرف بالای این نوع لامپ‌ها استفاده از آن‌ها بسیار محدود شده است.
لامپهای فلورسنت که در بازار به نام لامپ کم مصرف به فروش می‌رسد دارای مصرف پایینی می‌باشد و دربازار با توان مصرفی بین ۸تا۱۸وات ارائه می‌شود. نحوه تولید نور در این لامپ‌ها به این صورت می‌باشد که ولتاژ اعمال شده به دوسر لامپ باعث گرم شدن گاز آرگون شده و در نتیجه باعث بخار جیوه موجود در لامپ می‌شود. الکترون‌های آزاد به بخار جیوه برخورد کرده و تولید اشعه فرابنفش می‌کند. با توجه به اینکه سطح شیشه‌ای لامپ پوشیده شده از فسفر است، در اثر برخورد اشعه فرابنفش با فسفر نور تولید می‌شود.
نوع سوم لامپهای شمعی ال ای دی می‌باشند که در طرح‌ها و وات‌های مختلف در بازار وجود دارد. توان مصرفی این لامپ‌ها معمولا بین ۱تا هشت وات می‌باشد.
باید توجه کرد که نور تولیدی توسط یک لامپ ۸وات ال ای دی حدود سه برابر لامپ کم‌مصرف با توان مصرفی یکسان است.
همچنین لامپهای شمعی ال ای دی به صورت فیلامنتی نیز تولید می‌شوند که از نظر ظاهری مشابه لامپهای رشته‌ای می‌باشند.
